I’m
sitting here in the Alaska Airlines lounge at the Portland Airport (PDX)
writing this post (our lounge club access from my previous JPMorgan Palladium card expires at the end of the month).
Me and my wife had a great time this weekend visiting my in-laws
in Portland, Oregon. We enjoyed
great food and great company with family and friends. We have an hour to kill before we board our flight and I
thought this would be a great time to write a quick post.

We booked this trip a
few months ago with our Barclaycard Arrival credit card miles. As I
watch the planes fly by from my window view, I can’t help but feel amazed at
what a wonderful time of technology we live in. It’s
so incredible that we can travel over 1,000 miles in 2 hours to visit family. There
is so much to feel thankful for.
- I’m thankful for our health, being able to board a plane and
travel without any restrictions.
- I’m thankful for my wonderful wife, who puts up with all of our
credit card shenanigans so that we can travel for free. I’m glad we share the same financial
goals.
- I’m thankful for being a part of my wife’s wonderful
family. They are always so
welcoming. Visiting my in-laws in
Portland always feels so comfortable.
- I’m thankful to have such kind friends. Our friend Tiffany* let us park at her
place, which is less than 2 miles from the SNA airport. Our friend Peter* took some time to
grab lunch with us before dropping us off at the airport. (*names have been changed to protect
identities)
- I’m thankful for paid time off, which allows us to travel without worrying about a loss in pay.
As silly as this sounds, I’m also thankful for credit card
rewards, which provides us with so many free travel opportunities.

Okay, it’s
time to board our plane now. What
are you thankful for today?
