Our free flights to Asia paid for with miles and points

The wife and I have been busy accumulating miles on different programs.  Within the last few months, we’ve accumulated a combined total of over 200,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points and 185,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles (among other points programs).   We have accumulated these free miles and points through some generous credit card bonuses, as well as getting points for using our rewards credit cards to pay for regular everyday expenses and bills.

We have been looking forward to vacationing and visiting family in Asia and I recently booked our flights for free! (minus some fees and taxes).

American Express Bluebird review

There’s has been so much hype over the American Express Bluebird card since it came out in November 2012 that I had to try to jump into the game myself.

American Express and Walmart have teamed up to provide a new type of prepaid debit card.  Signing up for a bluebird account is free at www.bluebird.com.  There is no credit inquiry when signing up for a bluebird account since this is not a credit card.

End of the Citibank American Airlines 2 Browser Trick?

One of my readers, Ben, was the first to report to me that the Citibank American Airlines 2 browser trick may no longer work.

Since then, I have read various reports on flyertalk describing people getting approved for only 1 American Airlines card, and then denied for their other application (read the newest posts in the forum thread).

The game of collecting airline miles and points is constantly changing.  For now, I have to recommend against applying for 2 American Airlines cards at the same time with the 2 browser trick.  Sounds like that deal is over.

Still, getting 1 American Airlines card with free 50,000 miles is a pretty good deal by itself.

If you never got a chance to get in on the deal, let this be a lesson that hesitation doesn’t pay off with hot deals like this.

Finally received my checkpoints $500 LV reward!

Last week, I finally received my checkpoints $500 Louis Vuitton gift card prize redemption in the mail!
If you recall, a few months ago I won the checkpoints 150K point jackpot on the slot machine game.  It took a couple of back and forth emails to checkpoints support for them to finally get my prize processed and shipped. I redeemed the prize on 12/25/2012 and it took over a month for my prize to get processed and finally shipped on 2/1/2013.

Free $400 from Barclays NFL credit card

Barclays bank is offering a nice sign up bonus for their NFL credit card here.

You can get $400 back in statement credits after spending $2500 within the first 90 days.

This is a free $400 rebate for one hard inquiry.  I usually am more excited about airline miles, but a free $400 is hard to resist.

You earn 2x points on NFL purchases and 1 point on other purchases.  It’s not a great card for spending other than getting the sign up bonus.  Also, this card does not have an annual fee.

You can choose various team logos for your credit card:
