May side hustles 2014

The great thing about doing side hustles to generate extra income is that you can hustle on your own terms.  The more hard work, time, and creative effort you put in, the more extra money you can make.  You can hustle as little or as much as you want, whenever you want.  It’s your extra money, and you can choose how you want to spend it.

Here’s our monthly summary of side income that we’ve generated in the month of May.  May has been a pretty busy for us.  My wife started her new job earlier this month, and she had an intense training program to go through.  We had several family events and a wedding to attend.  And we recently adopted a new puppy, Abby, which we have dedicated a lot of time to.

Cash Back
On 5.19, we redeemed 20,000 Starpoints earned with our Starwood Preferred Guest credit card for 2 free nights of hotel stay in San Francisco, saving us $278.

Website income
We did not earn any website income for the month of May, although we should be getting a small payout next month.

Search and Win
On 5.9, I received $5 Amazon gift card from Swagbucks
On 5.19, I received $5 Amazon gift card from Swagbucks

On 5.15, I received $5 Amazon gift card from Bing
On 5.26, I received $5 Amazon gift card from Bing

Paid surveys
This past month, we have been doing a lot of surveys on E-rewards for airline miles, and less on other survey sites.  We are getting ready for our next trip and these miles earned help us pad our Southwest and American Airlines frequent flyer accounts.

On 5.12, I received $10 PayPal deposit from Opinion Outpost

On 5.2, I received $3 PayPal deposit from PineCone Research
On 5.14, I received $3 PayPal deposit from PineCone Research
On 5.30, I received $3 PayPal deposit from PineCone Research

E-rewards Medical
On 5.16, I received a $20 check from E-rewards Medical

Side Job
On 5.3, I received a check for $275 from my teaching job at the local university

Rental Income
On 5.1, I received $1,010 in rental income ($550 + $460)
One of our housemates has moved out, and our second housemate will be staying with us another 1-2 months.

Misc. Income
On 5.2, my wife received $24.08 direct deposit from Amazon sales

Monthly Totals:
Although not the most we have earned on the side, May was another productive side hustle month.
We earned $278 credit card cash back
We earned $20 worth of Amazon gift certificates from Search and Win sites
We earned $39 in cash from paid surveys
I earned $275 from my side job teaching students at a local university
We earned $1,010 from rental income from our two housemates (now down to one)
We earned $24.08 of miscellaneous income from selling books on Amazon

All of this totals $1,646.08 from our side hustles for the month of May.  Not too shabby!  We’re saving most of it and putting it towards reaching financial freedom.

These updates aren’t meant as “show off” or “bragging” posts.  These posts are to regularly document our progress.  Not all of the following side hustles may be applicable to you.  Instead of focusing on what ideas don’t apply to you, try focusing on different side hustle ideas that you can implement to work for your situation.

Sure, some may find inspiration in these side hustle posts.  Many others may see our side hustle income as small potatoes and chump change.  Regardless, we’re already looking forward to another month of more side hustles!

Are you doing any hustling on the side?
