July side hustles 2014

The great thing about doing side hustles to generate extra income is that you can hustle on your own terms.  The more hard work, time, and creative effort you put in, the more extra money you can make.  You can hustle as little or as much as you want, whenever you want.  It’s your extra money, and you can choose how you want to spend it.

Welcome to August, the start of another brand new month.  Are you meeting your financial goals?  Are you swimming in the deep end of debt?  Are you barely making ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck?  Or are you on the fast track to reach financial freedom?

Earning on the side is a great way to pay off debt, earn more income, and save more money to invest.

Not all of the following side hustles may be applicable to you.  Instead of focusing on what ideas don’t apply to you, try focusing on different side hustle ideas that you can implement to work for your situation.

Here’s our monthly summary of side income that we’ve generated in the month of July.  It’s been a big month.

Award Travel
On 7.20, I redeemed 50,000 American Airlines miles and $10 for $1444 worth of travel.  I wrote about it here.  I used Kayak.com to conservatively estimate the value of our award flight redemption.  After paying $10 in fees, we saved $1434 towards free travel.  Because we have American Airlines credit cards, we earned 5,000 miles refunded back (10% bonus deposit of miles).

On 7.27, I redeemed 60,000 United Airlines miles (converted from Chase Ultimate Rewards points) and $71.40 for $651 worth of travel.  I wrote about it here.  I used Kayak.com to conservatively estimate the value of our award flight redemption.  After paying $71.40 in fees, we saved $579.60 towards free travel.

We earned $345 credit card cash back, plus earned a 100,000 American Airlines mile bonus.
We earned $40 worth of Amazon gift certificates from Search and Win sites Swagbucks and Bing.  While this isn’t a huge amount of money, it’s great for buying necessities like dog food and toiletries from Amazon.
We earned $6 in cash from paid surveys.
I earned $275 from my side job teaching
We earned $550 from rental income from our one housemate
We earned $14.29 of miscellaneous income from a settlement claim

We saved $2013.60 (after fees) in vacation travel by using up 45,000 American Airlines miles (50,000 - 5,000 mile refund) and 60,000 United Airlines miles.

All of this totals $4,907.69 from our side hustles for the month of July, our new best month documented to date!
